Phuket Airport is the 2nd busiest Thailand Airport. Phuket International Airport (HKT) is Southern Thailand’s portal to the Paradise Islands of Phuket itself, plus to many other holiday resort areas.
Phuket Airport does not only service the Island Phuket and its hotels and towns, it also serves as a Hub for other provinces in the area. These include Phang Nga Province (Khao Lak Beach) and Krabi Province (Ao Nang, Phi Phi Island, Koh Lanta). Krabi has its own International airport, but it is does service anywhere near the amount of traffic that Phuket does.
The airport in Phuket has two terminals. Terminal 1 is used for International Arrivals & Departures and Terminal 2 for domestic flights. The airport has a capacity of handling 24 flight operations per hour and operates 24 hours a day 365 days a year.
The security at the airport has been tightened up significantly to comply with International Standards. It has now twice as many security personnel and X-ray machines in operation than before.
Immigration – For International Arrivals, assuming you not need to apply for Visa on arrival, you need to plan 30 – 40 minutes to pass the immigration and getting your Luggage. Please keep in mind when booking your Airport Pick up. For Visa on Arrival plan up to 2 hours for getting your Visa. We suggest getting a Tourist Visa before arrival.
